About NOUS

Screen Shot 2017-05-12 at 4.51.35 PMNATIONAL:  The Naval Order of the United States is dedicated to preserving the living history of our sea going services. Our membership keeps history alive through the restoration of historic artifacts, establishment of memorials at key sites, and the active collection of our shared history through academic papers, published works, and ad hoc stories.  The national Naval Order website contains an extensive amount of interesting information and it can be accessed by clicking here.

We are a growing community of members spanning multiple generations and military engagements. Using written, visual, aural and social media, we tell our stories and work as a community to build, restore, and commemorate our treasured national history of those who went to sea in the name of our country.  A list of local Commanderies can be found here.

NOUS NORTHWEST: We are one of the newest NOUS Commanderies having been chartered on 17 January 2017.  The formal delivery of that charter took place during the Annual Congress in Jacksonville, Florida on 19 October.

We welcome all veterans and their relatives of the US Maritime Services, including Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, US Public Health Service and NOAA.  Additional details regarding membership can be found here.

Our meetings are mostly held online via Zoom, a result of COVID and an expansion of membership to dispersed areas across our area.  We also hold hybrid Zooms from time to time, with live gatherings in the Seattle/Everett, Washington area.  Our membership covers the states of Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Idaho although we do have companions who now reside outside those areas. For those who may have an interest in joining NOUS Northwest, please complete the Contact form above and our membership department will promptly respond to you.

CAPT David Todd, USN (Ret.) is NOUS Northwest’s Commander.  He can be reached by phone at (503) 320-5849 or by email at toddd@easystreet.net.
