NOUS Northwest companions have a great opportunity to learn some Pacific maritime history during the current shelter-in-place situation affecting our three northwestern states. This event will take place at 11:00 (Pacific Time) on 1 April.
From Norwich University:
“April 1, 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the amphibious assault by American units on Okinawa in 1945. The bitter fighting on Okinawa lasted for eleven weeks until June 22, 1945, costing more than 60,000 American casualties and 150,000 Japanese casualties.
“This webinar will commemorate the start of the Battle of Okinawa. Join Pierce Reid, Master of Arts in Military History alumnus from 2014, and Dr. David Ulbrich, Program Director for the online Master of Arts in History and Military History programs at Norwich University as they discuss the Japanese and American plans employed to defend/attack the island of Okinawa.”
